Storm set to host annual Teddy Bear Toss Friday night

Dec 9, 2021 | 12:06 PM

The Grande Prairie Storm are gearing up to host their first Teddy Bear Toss game in two years on Friday, December 10.

The annual game encourages fans to toss as many teddy bears as they would like onto the ice after the Storm score their first goal of the evening.

Storm Business Manager Ryan Carter says there are a couple of key things fans should be aware of if they plan on tossing a bear on the ice.

“Bears must be packaged or in plastic and those go to the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation,” he explained. “We will have some (bears) onsite that can be purchased to throw, but obviously, those are limited. It all goes to a good cause.”

The team asks that the bears are thrown onto the ice in plastic bags to ensure they stay clean for whatever child might end up receiving it after the game from the Hospital Foundation.

With it being two years since the Storm organization has hosted their last Teddy Bear Toss, Carter tells EverythingGP players and staff are excited for the game.

“We are just trying to get the support we can. Obviously, everything across the board has been a little subdued because of the pandemic,” Carter said.

“This is our last (home) game before the Christmas break, so we are hoping fans can make their way out, support the team and the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation for the Christmas season.”

Carter mentioned the Storm will be looking to build off of a 3-2 shootout victory on Tuesday night against the Bonnyville Pontiacs.

“It’s going to be an exciting game. The Calgary Canucks are in town, it is the only time they will be up here this year. The team just won a thrilling shootout game here at home, so we are hoping for a thrilling night during a festive time of year.”

Tickets can be purchased by heading to the team’s website.
