City continuing with snow removal throughout next week

Jan 7, 2022 | 12:35 PM

City of Grande Prairie snow removal crews are continuing to clean up the roads after heavy snowfall over the last week and with more expected to fall over the weekend.

So far, crews have completed plowing loose snow from priority 1 roads, and are actively plowing to remove hard-packed snow.

Priority 2 roads are expected to be plowed completely by the middle of next week and windrows from priority 2 roads are expected to be picked up by the following week, weather dependant.

Meantime, another two-week round of residential snow clearing is set to begin on January 10 in Grande Prairie, immediately following the completion of the current round of residential snow clearing.

The current round of residential snow clearing began on December 27.

Administration says snow removal services are completed on a priority basis. An emphasis is placed on plowing snow and haunting it away from priority 1 and 2 roads, to ensure safe access for emergency vehicles and travellers.

“Removing snow from these areas also increases visibility for commuters on high-traffic-volume roadways,” said the city in a release.

After these services are completed, crews are set to begin hauling snow piles from low-traffic locations, like cul-de-sacs in residential areas.

A parking ban on all permanent snow routes is in effect and is active from Monday to Friday between the hours of 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
