Grande Prairie RCMP, County Enforcement Services to host virtual town hall

Jan 27, 2022 | 2:19 PM

The Grande Prairie RCMP and County Regional Enforcement Services are hosting a joint virtual town hall meeting in February.

The event will be taking place via zoom on February 8 from 7-8 p.m.

Cst. Lindsay Ralph with the Grande Prairie RCMP says the online forum will have multiple presentations from peace officers, bylaw officers, as well as Grande Prairie rural RCMP officers.

“They will be able to hear crime statistics in the area, what kind of strategies these three units are doing in order to prevent that from occurring,” said Ralph. “So if they are interested in hearing what kind of roles peace officers, bylaw officers, and the RCMP have, this (town hall meeting) is a good opportunity for them as well.”

There will also be a Q&A period, which will allow participants to ask questions via a live chat to get answers from the presenters during the last 30 minutes of the Zoom meeting.

“If someone can’t attend the meeting, they will have a link to the recording so they can watch it afterward so they will be able to see all the questions from everyone and what the respondents gave as an answer,” Ralph added.

Registration for the virtual town hall meeting is required to participate.

Residents must live in the Grande Prairie RCMP detachment area in order to attend, which Superintendent Stuart Rempel, Manager of County Regional Enforcement Services says is defined as east of Range Road 75.

“The idea for this event was inspired by other RCMP virtual town halls being held throughout Alberta, including those hosted for West County residents by the Beaverlodge RCMP Detachment,” he explained.

The virtual town hall meeting is in part for Safe Communities, which is one of seven priorities in the County’s 2020 to 2025 Strategic Plan,

County Regional Enforcement Services says in a release the goal of the event is to improve the safety and security of residents in the community while also strengthening partnerships amongst policing organizations.
