Alberta North Sport Conference set to return in March

Feb 7, 2022 | 5:22 PM

For the first time since December 2019, the Alberta North Sport Conference will return on March 19.

December 2019 marked the first time the Alberta North Sport Conference was ever held.

Grande Prairie Regional Sport Connection Executive Director Karna Germshied says she is hopeful they can build off momentum from the 2019 event.

“We had a two-day event last time and had some really high-quality speakers. We had 40 plus different organizations there at the conference and we had some good quality information that was shared there that they can take away to help with our programming in the region.”

This year’s event will take place at the TARA Centre at Evergreen Park. The goal will be to bring together a team of professionals representing the Peace Region to offer interactive sessions to help build healthy communities through sport.

This conference will help sport volunteers, coaches, parents, and teachers better support athletes and create a safe, healthy and fun sporting environment.

Guest speakers will feature Olympic athlete and activist Haley Daniels & Sport Law’s Cheryl Humphrey.

The conference will take place the day after the Northwest Alberta Sport Excellence Awards, which Germshied hopes can help draw more people to the conference.

“The conference is going to follow the Northwest Alberta Sport Excellence Awards and it’s a one-day in-person conference. Our speakers are going to be live, but they will be broadcasted with a moderator on-site. We’re hoping this different formula will be fun and engaging and hopefully, we can get a lot of representatives from our sports community out there to participate.”
