Grande Prairie records 60th COVID-19 death

The City of Grande Prairie has recorded its 60th COVID-19 death. The death was one of 39 reported in Alberta from February 4-6. To date, 3,673 Albertans have died from COVID-19.

Meantime, the city added 95 new COVID-19 cases and 88 recoveries over the weekend. There are 468 active cases in the city (up six).

The County of Grande Prairie added 38 new cases of COVID-19 during the same timeframe, along with 27 recoveries. It now has 186 active cases (up 11).

Across Alberta, 4,618 new cases were identified from 14,765 tests, resulting in a test positivity rate of 31.2 per cent. There are currently 30,711 active cases in the province.

Provincial officials say with the rollout of rapid tests to most households, the actual number of new COVID-19 infections in the province is likely higher than what is being reported.

Active case totals, as of February 6 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • Clear Hills County: four active (-1)
  • County of Northern Lights: 18 active (+4)

The province saw hospitalizations fall by 42 to 1,542, while the number of ICU patients remained stable at 118. Of those in the hospital, 390 are unvaccinated, while in the ICU, 56 of the 118 patients are unvaccinated.

In the North Zone, 119 people are in hospital (up five), six of whom are in the ICU (down two).

To date, 89.9 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 86.2 per cent of those eligible have received at least two doses.
