City seeking feedback from residents to help improve community safety

Feb 15, 2022 | 12:23 PM

The City of Grande Prairie is asking residents for feedback on how it can help improve safety in our community.

The city has launched the Community Safety Inactive which runs from February 14 until March 14. The purpose of the survey will be to allow all residents in Grande Prairie the chance to submit their community safety ideas to city officials.

“It is our hope to engage the public in a more open dialogue, so we can hear what matters most in safety initiatives,” said Wendy Hughes, the Senior Executive Advisor for Protective and Social Services with the City of Grande Prairie.

The main goal for city officials will be to identify and understand which crime prevention and community safety topics residents value the most and, where possible, implement ideas submitted by the community.

Hughes tells EverythingGP they’re open to listening to all ideas that come their way.

“We want to look at ideas and assess them in their viability and perhaps we may implement them or consider them in future (community safety) strategies,” Hughes added.

The panel of city officials that will review the ideas submitted include the RCMP, finance, legal and other pertinent areas of expertise in the region.

“We have a panel of experts that will be looking at the viability of ideas,” Hughes stated. “We will also be sharing these ideas with the municipal policing advisory committee and then later with council, as well as those members who are submitting their ideas.”

You can fill out the initiative by heading to the city’s website. The city thanks residents for submitting their ideas and helping them maximize public safety.
