Construction complete on new Grande Prairie Composite High School

Feb 16, 2022 | 10:38 AM

The Alberta government says construction on the new Grande Prairie Composite High School has been completed.

The new school cost an estimated $78.5 million and will be able to hold 1,600 students from Grades 9-12. Construction on the school began in 2019.

“I am excited to celebrate the opening of the new Composite High School and to see students and teachers enjoying this fantastic facility,” said Grande Prairie MLA Tracy Allard.

“I want to wish students and staff years of excellence in learning in the new Comp and I know this will benefit the whole community as more Grande Prairie students are prepared for their post-secondary pursuits, whether they include further academic studies or enter directly into career paths.”

The new school will open its doors to students and staff this upcoming September when the 2022-23 school year gets underway.

Minister of Finance and Grande Prairie-Wapiti MLA Travis Toews says a facility like this has been much needed in the Swan City.

“As Albertans, we all understand the importance of providing our students with a strong, well-supported education that provides the foundations for a successful life,” he said.

“This new High School in Grande Prairie provides the critical infrastructure for that learning to take place, and I look forward to seeing many generations pass through this new facility.”
