Grande Prairie records 36 COVID-19 recoveries, 11 new cases over weekend

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 36 COVID-19 recoveries and 11 new cases from February 25-27. There are 136 active cases in the city.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there were 18 recoveries and 29 new cases identified over the weekend, there are 174 active cases in the county.

Over the weekend, Alberta added 1,435 new cases from 7,393 tests, resulting in a test positivity rate of 19.4 per cent. There are currently 9,188 active cases in the province.

Provincial officials say with the rollout of rapid tests to most households, the actual number of new COVID-19 infections in the province is likely higher than what is being reported.

Active case totals, as of February 24 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 136 active (-25)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 163 active (+11)
  • MD of Greenview: 61 active (+1)
  • Birch Hills County: one active (-1)
  • MD of Spirit River: 14 active (-)
  • Saddle Hills County: four active (-1)
  • MD of Peace: 135 active (+21)
  • MD of Fairview: 71 active (-12)
  • MD of Smoky River: 9 active (-2)
  • Big Lakes County: 60 active (-)
  • Clear Hills County: six active (+1)
  • County of Northern Lights: 15 active (-1)
  • Northern Sunrise County: seven active (+3)
  • Mackenzie County: 77 active (-10)

The province saw hospitalizations decrease to 1,224 (down 21), while 83 of those patients are in the ICU (down five).

In the North Zone, 144 people are in hospital (up 11), four of whom are in the ICU (down one).

There were 14 COVID-19 related deaths reported to Alberta Health over the weekend bringing the province COVID-19 death toll to 3,912.

So far, 90.1 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 86.5 per cent of those eligible have received at least two doses.
