Unemployment rate down full percentage point nationally, down slightly in Grande Prairie region
The economic region that includes Grande Prairie and the entire Peace Region still has the lowest unemployment rate in the province.
Figures released Friday morning by Statistics Canada show February’s unemployment rate for the region was 5.2 per cent, down from 5.3 per cent in January.
Across Alberta, 8,200 more people were employed in February when compared to January, dropping the unemployment rate to 6.8 per cent from 7.2 in the first month of the year.
The national jobless rate was down a full percentage point to 5.5 per cent, as StatsCan says the economy added 337,000 jobs, offsetting a loss of 200,000 jobs in January.
