Toews optimistic about agriculture’s future

Mar 20, 2022 | 6:00 AM

Grande Prairie-Wapiti MLA and Alberta Finance Minister Travis Toews says farmers and ranchers are hopeful for a normal weather pattern this year.

“We’re hoping for enough rain up here (but) not too much. Here in the Peace Country, we can get both extremes.”

“Overall, I’m incredibly optimistic about the agriculture industry. We’re seeing record-high commodity prices right now. There is just great demand for food products globally and agriculture products that we produce right here.”

Toews believes there are some “excellent years ahead” for the province and for the Peace.

“We have some of the most competitive, progressive agriculture producers in the world. There is a great future in agriculture.”

Toews says farmers and ranchers will need some good weather to see that promise realized.
