2022 federal budget: April 7

Warkentin calls for reduction in taxes and federal spending in 2022 federal budget

With the 2022 federal budget set to be delivered this week, the MP for Grande Prairie Mackenzie hopes to see the reduction of taxes unveiled in the House of Commons.

Chris Warkentin says that with the vast majority of Canadian families struggling to make ends meet, he believes the government needs to help alleviate some of the inflationary pressures Canadians are faced with.

Warkentin says he does not think the government should continue with the “high tax, high spend mentalities.”

“I believe that during a time of inflation, the government should actually be number one – reducing taxes – but also cutting federal spending to alleviate some of the inflationary pressures,” he said.

He explains that when the government spends large amounts of money, and when more money is printed, inflation continues to skyrocket.

“And the average Canadian effectively sees a pay cut because of the inflation and the costs of goods.”

With that, Warkentin says now more than ever the Liberal government needs to deliver a “prudent plan” to move forward.

“To reduce spending, to reduce the printing of money, to start living within its means, and to quit taxing Canadians and seeing those taxes escalate every single year,” he said.

“This federal government has had an aggressive tax and spend policy over the last number of years and I believe this government needs to move to some prudence.”

However, Warkentin says he does not have much faith the federal budget will show plans of relief of taxes or spending from the government.

“There hasn’t been a history of that with this government and of course now with the coalition with the NDP, I expect we will see the complete opposite,” he stated.

“As inflation goes up, not only does it cost more to pay for essentials of life, but the government also gets a windfall when there’s an increase in prices because they take a tax on everything that is spent.”

Warkentin tells EverythingGP his government will continue to fight for Canadians.

“Recognizing that the vast majority of Canadians, seniors, and small businesses have been struggling over the last number of years, and now more than ever, we need a government that will respond to the challenges that the average Canadian is facing.”
