Peace Region bracing for one last blast of winter

Apr 18, 2022 | 1:57 PM

Old Man Winter hasn’t quite left the Peace Region just yet.

Environment Canada is predicting a big dump of snow will fall throughout the Peace Region over the course of the next 24 hours.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Tom Anderson explains what is coming our way.

“We do have a spring storm coming up. A low pressure (system) is set to form through central Alberta overnight and that’s going to create a band of snow through the Peace Country,” he stated.

“For Grande Prairie, in particular, we’re looking at totals of about 10-15 centimetres (of snow) through the duration of that event. The snow at this time does look to be a bit heavier and we’re expecting accumulations west of Grande Prairie, closer to the British Columbia border.

Anderson tells EverythingGP parts of the B.C. and Alberta border could see between 20-25 centimetres of snow.

He says the snow will likely last until Wednesday morning.

“You can expect snow being fairly continuous and steady until things taper off Wednesday morning.”

According to Anderson, luckily for most, the snow will probably be gone by the weekend.

“Grande Prairie can expect a fairly quick warm-up into the latter half of the week. Right now we’re forecasting highs of eight on Thursday and 11 on Friday.”

Saturday could see the temperature reach 14 degrees.

Anderson reminds everyone to drive to the conditions in order to keep the roads safe for everybody.
