Art exhibit featuring local artists’ work on Peace Region history to open Friday
A brand new art exhibit will soon be unveiled at Grande Prairie’s Heritage Discovery Centre.
The exhibit, “$10 & A Dream” includes special artifacts, articles and catalogues honouring the Peace Region’s past as well as contemporary work.
Four local artists; Carmen Haakstad, Suzanne Sandboe, Jim Stokes and Tim Heimdal, created and curated the display about people that settled in the Peace Country in the 1900s.
The naming of the exhibit stems from when settlers came to the region, which was known as the “land of opportunity” or the “last frontier” and when a homesteader could buy a quarter section of land for $10.
