City planning community information session April 26 for downtown rehabilitation project

The City of Grande Prairie is slated to resume work on the downtown rehabilitation project in the first week of May.

Construction will continue between 98th and 99th Street on 100th Avenue and the city anticipates traffic to flow during that time.

With construction resuming, the city is holding an information session so community members can ask about the project, traffic plans, construction sequencing, timelines and more with the project team.

Matt Hinton, the Capital Planning and Construction Manager for the city says it’s going to be an open house drop-in style.

“People can come in and ask questions of the contractor, consultant and city staff to find out what’s going on for the next couple months in the downtown area,” he explained.

“The contractor is going to be ripping out the asphalt they laid down last year and replacing the sidewalks with new concrete and paving stones.”

Hinton notes the project is in final stages of Phase 4, which is mostly beautification.

“There’s potential for future phases, but right now we are just going to be finishing phase four and then working on other projects for the city after,” he added.

Completion of the project is expected in late July or early August if there are no delays for construction.

The community information session will be held at Fourteen14 Food Company located at 10120 100 Avenue on April 26 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
