Grande Prairie Fire Department hands out yearly awards and medals

Grande Prairie Fire Department took time out yesterday to recognize some of their own with their annual firefighter awards and medals.

A total of 32 individuals in 11 categories were recognized.

Landon Daigneault and Steph Garand shared the firefighter of the year award, while Drew Anderson was named Dispatcher of the year.

The Fire Chief award was presented to Jennifer Martin and Caylin Lewis, while awards of merit were given to several individuals, including Amber Metcalf, Jodi Giesbrecht, Mia Gagnon, Kelsey Pientsch, Alaina McLeod, Taylor Beach, Julia Corcoran, and Jasmyn Kay.

Justin Davidson and Tahvo Laukkanen were presented the Community service award while Laukkanen also received the Medal of Honour.

12 members of the department were presented with Alberta Emergency Service awards, while six members received Federal Fire Exemplary Service Medals. Included in that category was Trevor Schwabe for 30 years of fire service.
