Nominations are now being announced for the Edwin Parr Teacher Award.

This is given to a first-year teacher who shows how committed and dedicated they are to not only teaching but their students as well.

The Peace Wapiti School Divison has announced McKenna Wolstenholme from Whispering Ridge school as their nominee for the award.

Her first year of teaching included teaching in the basement of the Grande Prairie Alliance Church, due to a fire in her grade 1 classroom.

The Grande Prairie Public School Division have nominated Chiara Gorgichuck, from Crystal Park School.

Gorgichuk was nominated for her diverse teaching style and commitment to getting to know the whole child, even outside the classroom.

Neve Aspeslet, a grade 2 teacher at Springfield Elementary school is the Peace River school division nominee for the award.

And Madisyn Gorman, a grade two teacher at St Mary scHool in Beaverlodge, was named back in March as the nominee from the Grande Prairie and District Catholic school division.

Each year, only six teachers across the entire province are selected for this award.

All nominees will be recognized at the provincial level by Alberta School Board Association at their fall meeting.
