Khwahish Foundation raises awareness for World Menstrual Day with the “Period Pack”
May 28 is World Menstrual Day and to raise awareness and help support women who have to decide between basic human needs or female toiletries, the Khwahish Foundation of Grande Prairie has created the “Period Pack”.
It is a hygiene kit containing six months supply of woman’s underwear, tampons, sanitary packs, hand sanitizer, deodorant, and dental hygiene items. It can be refilled at the Wapiti House.
Since the launch of ‘Stomp Out Period Poverty’ on May 28, 2020, the foundation has donated 8,670 female hygiene products and the ‘Period Pack’ is the newest strategy to help support poor or vulnerable women.
The Foundation believes “the ability to provide access to what is truly a basic need is no different than having toilet paper in the facility”. They hope to support the United Nations Development Goal 3.0: Good health and well-being by 2030.
