Fire Advisories in effect for Grande Prairie and Peace River Forest Areas

Jun 2, 2022 | 2:09 PM

As of Thursday, June 2, 2022, the wildfire danger in the Grande Prairie Forest Area has risen to very high and the Peace River and High Level Forest Area have risen to high.

Due to increasing fire hazards and forecasted weather, fire advisories have been put in place in the GPFA and PRFA.

Over the past 24 hours, five new wildfires have been responded to by firefighters in the HLFA, all have been caused by lightning. There are six active wildfires in the HLFA, two are out of control, three are being held and one is under control.

Fire permits in the GPFA have been suspended including burn barrels, incinerators, and smokehouses.

All PRFA fire permits remain valid unless otherwise directed by a Forest Officer.

Any burning without a fire permit is prohibited unless it is:

  • Safe wood campfire
  • Backyard fire pit
  • Portable propane fire pit
  • Gas/propane stoves or barbeques
  • Catalytic or infrared-style heaters

Since January 1, 2022, the GPFA has had 15 wildfires that have burnt nearly six hectares and there are currently none active in the area.
