Chautauqua Day

34th annual Chautauqua Day returns to Sexsmith on Saturday

Jun 3, 2022 | 6:00 AM

After a two-year hiatus, Sexsmith is getting set up and ready to have its 34th annual Chautauqua Day on Saturday, June 4.

The festivities kick off at 9 a.m. with a pancake breakfast at the Civic Centre. That will be followed by a parade on Main Street at noon, then food, rides, activities and music all afternoon on Main Street and 99th Street. To finish off the night an Elks Family Dine and Dance will be held at the Civic Centre from 6:30 p.m. to midnight!

Mayor of Sexsmith Kate Potter says Chautauqua Day is a great time for everyone to get out, especially after not holding it since 2019.

“With the restrictions being lifted, we are very excited, and our community groups for a lot of them.. this is a big fundraiser time.”

Potter notes some other celebrations being held as well; “We have heard nothing but excitement, we have lots of new things like the Dine and Dance in the evening, one of the local churches is celebrating its 50th anniversary on the weekend and Braeheid Gardens, our nearest greenhouse, they also are celebrating their 10th anniversary.”

“For us, this is really a critical moment of the community being able to celebrate together and have fun together. We always have a great turnout with people from all across the region.”
