Habitat for Humanity welcomes a family to their new Habitat Home.

Jun 7, 2022 | 4:47 PM

Habitat for Humanity and their partners officially welcomed a family to their Habitat Home here in Grande Prairie.

Angela Osipow the recipient of the Habitat Home says she’s so thrilled to have peace of mind, her son is now able to go outside and play without her being worried about his safety and she would recommend it to anyone who’s struggling…

“I would say apply for Habitat, the worst they could say is no, and if say yes it will change everything, overnight it changed everything, my peace of mind, everything, were are here and we feel safe.”

Osipow said she is now able to start saving money for her son’s college and other things and she can’t wait for other families to move into the neighborhood.

Amber Lachambre, Vice President of Sustainability and Impact with Habitat for Humanity says that building these new homes is a win for not only the families that get to call it home but, for whoever needs it after…

“Habitat Home recipients have that ability to make plans for the future, not just for their kids but also build equity and eventually move on to open market home ownership, which in turn habitat buys the home back and we serve a new family with the same build.”

Lachambre said that she’s so thankful for the people of Grande Prairie…

“The support has been incredible Grande Prairie is such a strong community-minded area and the way the business community, the local municipal government, the Government of Alberta, and even the Government of Canada have all stepped up, as well as donors and the Rotary Club, it’s so heart warming and this doesn’t happen without that level of community support.”

Lachambre said Habitat for Humanity does have future plans of building new houses in the area and has the support of the community, along with land that Habitat for Humanity is hoping should be available to them soon.

But no details and plans are being released as of now.
