The Valleyview RCMP is investigating an incident where a man was impersonating an officer.

At approximately 1 a.m. on Wednesday police responded to a 9-1-1 call in the MD of Greenview near Valleyview.

A female spoke to officers when they arrived on the scene, advising them a man had come to her door and identified himself as the police. She believed him and opened her door, he then tried to gain entrance into her residence but the woman was able to close the door and immediately called 9-1-1.

The man impersonating an officer fled the scene in what is believed to be a dark-coloured SUV.

The man is described as:

  • A short male with a dark-colored full beard and mustache
  • Brush cut hair
  • Medium coloured complexion
  • He was dressed in regular men’s clothing but was wearing a police vest over a grey shirt that stated “POLICE” on the chest and had a gold-coloured badge on the shoulder
  • He spoke with a Spanish accent

The RCMP is reminding citizens that they can request identification from anyone identifying themselves as a police officer. When doing so, citizens can request to see the officer’s police badge as well as a police photo identification card which includes a photo of the officer, their name, date of birth, and badge number. Citizens can also call the police non-emergency number to verify an officer’s identity.

The Valleyview RCMP is asking for the publics assistance for any information in relation to the incident. You can contact the detachment at 780-524-3345 or your local police. If you want to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
