June 9th Covid-19 Update

Jun 10, 2022 | 6:00 AM

Alberta Health Services has released their first Covid-19 update in June.

The county and the city of Grande Prairie both separately had seven new cases in the past week (May 31 – June 6).

Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw said Covid-19 numbers in hospitals are lowering.

“As Minister Copping mentioned earlier, the number of people with Covid-19 in hospital has decreased. Currently, there are 816 people with covid, including 24 in the ICU, this is a decrease of about 20% over the last two weeks.”

Dr. Hinshaw is still recommending Albertans that haven’t received all of their vaccines, should do so.

“I want to remind Albertans that have not yet been vaccinated, or who have not received all doses their eligible for, vaccines without a doubt continue to be our best protection, currently less than 50% of Albertans have received their third dose their eligible for.”

With warmer seasons coming and numbers dropping, Dr. Hinshaw says still be cautious; “We know we have the benefit of the summer season on our side to further drive down transmission. However, that being said it is important that we remember while we are learning to live with covid, that does not mean forgetting about it.”

Dr. Hinshaw recommends masks in times when the transmission is higher and when gathering with loved ones who are high risk.
