County of Grande Prairie to host three Open Houses

The County of Grande Prairie has its Open House events next week for the first time after a two-year hiatus.

Leanne Beaupre, Reeve of the County of Grande Prairie says she looks forward to the events continuing, having the face-to-face connection and being able to give people answers to questions they may have.

“It’s a really great opportunity for residents and peers in the area to come out and speak to the councillors, talk to the different departments within our organization and ask questions or ask about the programs we provide,” says Beaupre.

“Each department will be represented whether it’s Agriculture, Enforcement Services, Fire Protection, even our Finance Department has representation. Our Family and Community Support Services which includes Libraries, our assessment team is there to talk, most people will have received their assessment notices in the mail and they may have some questions, and of course, our Public Works Department and they will be there to speak about roads, bridges, landfills and all the other services they provide.” Beaupre listed the extensive amount of county employees that will be at the Open Houses.

Beaupre says after a two-year hiatus she expects lots of questions, especially in such a diverse community like Grande Prairie, but she does anticipate one to be a big topic.

“So I really expect that at each open house there will be a different conversation in each area, but you know when council members were going door to door campaigning before the election what they heard mostly from their peers was about roads and improvements to roads.”

All three County Open Houses are within days of each other and run from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and include a complimentary barbecue at every one.

• Monday, June 20 – Demmitt Cultural Society Hall
  Location: On Range Road 132 off Highway 43, 27 km west of Hythe
• Wednesday, June 22 – Webster Community Hall
  Location: On Range Road 53 off Highway 2, Webster
• Thursday, June 23 – Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum
  Location: 9301-112 Avenue, Wembley

The final Open House in Wembley at the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum will have free access to the museum for all residents that attend.
