Two tournaments part of a busy weekend for local ball teams

Officials at Grande Prairie Minor Baseball say they are “so excited” to be hosting a tournament again.

The organization is expecting 43 teams to be in Grande Prairie this weekend for a tournament for players that range in age from 5 to 18.

The teams will be from Grande Prairie, Beaverlodge, Valleyview, High Prairie, and Fox Creek.

Games start Friday at 5 pm.

Games start at 8 am Saturday and go all day. Sunday games, including the finals, go from 8 am to 6 pm.

Most games will be played at Evergreen Park, but some will also be played at the Dave Barr diamonds.

Pirates hosting fastball tournament

The Grande Prairie Pirates are hosting a fastball tournament this weekend at South Bear.

There are games Friday night at 7 and 9 pm. The Pirates will play the Grande Prairie Masters in the first game and the Sooke Loggers in the second one.

Games start at 9 am Saturday with the last one at 7 pm. The final round-robin game is at 9 am Sunday. Semi-finals at 11 am Sunday with the final at 2 pm.

Five teams are taking part.

WBL games Friday

There were supposed to be two games in the Wheatbelt Baseball League Friday.

Peace River in Grimshaw has been postponed until June 30.

Rycroft is still scheduled to play in Manning.

Both games start at 7:15 pm.

Lights at home this weekend

The Northern Lights U15 AAA is home to the Parkland Twins this weekend.

The U18 AAA team will host the Webber Wildcats.

Game times will be 3 and 6 pm Saturday, 9 am and Noon Sunday at Evergreen Park.
