Support the Dutch rally planned for Saturday in Grande Prairie

Jul 22, 2022 | 6:00 AM

Another slow roll convoy is planned for in and around Grande Prairie Saturday.

The rally called Support the Dutch is being held to support protests of government proposals by farmers in The Netherlands.

The government wants to cut emissions by reducing the number of livestock, proposals that could go up to expropriating land.

Local organizer Elliot McDavid refers to the protesters in The Netherlands as “brothers and sisters.”

“They’re blood brothers and sisters because of World War II and when the Canadian troops helped save that country. We’ve got to stand together.”

“It’s 70 years later (and) and we’ve got to stand together and support each other

Anyone who wants to take part can gather at the west side Petro Canada. McDavid says the convoy will leave from there at 11 am Saturday.

“We’ll be heading south on 116 Street to 68 Avenue, then east on 68th to 92 Street, then well go north on 92 Street.”

The convoy will then make its way west on 116 Street, past Northwestern Polytechnic, then back west on 100 Avenue.

McDavid says organizers are worried that the same thing happening there will happen here.

“They want everybody eating crickets and stuff. Myself, I like Alberta beef because I’m an Alberta boy.”

McDavid says he can’t give an exact number on how many vehicles will show up but thinks it will be “quite a few.”
