Float tours the newest offering from the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum

The newest outdoor adventure tour by the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum: Secrets of the Wapiti just soft launched on Wednesday and is ready for residents and visitors to partake.

A five-hour tour includes a three-hour float down the Wapiti River from the Pipestone Bone Bed with fossil exploration, and a late lunch and Q&As with the paleontologist team at the Nihehawk Adventure Park to finish.

Museum Director Linden Roberts says their museum is different from others.

“At most, you just see what paleontologists found, you see the end result. At our museum, you get the chance to see all the stages of finding new dinosaurs.”

Many tours are already offered by the museum, but Roberts says this one is different because “this one is about how paleontologists prospect, how they go down a river looking for potential dinosaur finds.”

“Learning to read details or the region and know where you might find dinosaur footprints or evidence of dinosaurs. Lots of petrified wood… that’s a sign. When you find the food of the dinosaurs fossilized, you are close,” adds Roberts.

The tour is led by certified river guides in Swift Water Rescue Level 2, Boat Rescue Level 1 and guiding through Rescue Canada, along with a palaeo content guide to talk about the local wildlife, and history of the area and point out hidden gem dig sites that can’t be reached by foot.
