Alberta Open Farm Days this weekend

Aug 12, 2022 | 12:00 PM

An agriculture event held every year is back this weekend.

Alberta Open Farm Days are set for Saturday and Sunday.

The Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies CEO Tim Carson says 120 places across the province signed up to be host farms; three of which are in the Peace.

“We continue to expand the program and when hosts are ready or when they would like to have the opportunity to become involved in Open Farm Days or look at agri-tourism as a diversification of their farm, we are ready for them.”

Country Roads RV Park will be welcoming Open Farm Days guests from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6:00 p.m. Sunday.

Bay Tree Market on 49 will be open Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Hours at Farm 2 Table on 51 near Sexsmith will be 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday.

Carson says a whole range of places around Alberta are taking part.

“We actually have everything from alpacas to yaks and everything in between. The grains and pulses are well represented, all of the livestock industry, including some of the less mainstream like I had mentioned alpacas and yaks.”

“There is also all of the rest of the value chain that is Alberta agriculture.”

His some advice for anyone going is “you are going to a farm so open-toed shoes is not necessarily the way to go. Put on your runners just in case you find something that a goose left behind.”

“If you have the opportunity to leave your pet at home, that is another little piece of advice. We just don’t know what the pet situation looks like at each farm.”

Open Farm Days is marking its 10th anniversary this year.
