Aug 25, 2022 | 8:16 AM

The County of Grande Prairie’s council met on August 22 for a regular meeting.

A bigger item during the meeting was council approving their new 2022-23 Government Advocacy Priorities to guide advocacy over the next year in three areas.

They approved the option to have 18 properties in La Glace to be connected to the hamlet’s main water line. The decision was made to encourage other property owners that have not done so to do it while upgrades are happening.

$200,000 was released from capital funding to go to the future Sunrise House in the City of Grande Prairie. The funding was approved in 2020, and Council encouraged the organization for the new emergency youth shelter to submit any further funding requests to the 2023 Capital Grant funding program.

506 rolling waste bins will be bought for $40,427. The carts will be for replacements and for new inventory over the next four years. The bins cost approximately $80 per piece.

Windsor Ford has entered into agreements with the County to provide trucks for their equipment fleet. Over $1 million dollars will pay for 12 pickup trucks, one F-550 mechanic truck, and one 4500 one-tonne flatbed truck. Council directed Administration to investigate current trends and potential solutions related to increased costs and reduced availability for their fleet replacements.

November 8, 2022, is the set date for the County’s annual tax sale. The estimated value for 12 properties for the tax sale were approved and will be reassessed before the sale.

$120,740 is going to the Rio Grande Sports Grounds paving project. The funds are from the Division 6 road bonding reserve.
