Hazardous material spill in Clairmont

UPDATE – County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Services says at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30, it was reported a hydrochloric spill had occurred in Clairmont.

The County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service Dangerous Goods Technicians secured the area and used soda ash to neutralize the spilled acid.

One person from the location was transported to the hospital after coming into contact with the acid during the spill.

Alberta Environment has been notified of the incident and there is no risk to the environment.

The County says the cause of the hydrochloric spill is under investigation.

Grande Prairie RCMP, County of Grande Prairie Fire Department, and EMS are on scene in the area of 157 Avenue and 89 Street in Clairmont.

A hazardous material has spilled and crews are expected to remain on the scene for several hours.

Mounties want to advise residents and the public of the reasoning behind the increased presence of emergency services.

There is no risk to the public and no further updates on the hazardous spill are expected.
