Try Junior Lifeguard Club and classes at Eastlink Centre

Sep 6, 2022 | 5:33 PM

The Eastlink Centre and City of Grande Prairie will begin offering Rookie Day and the Junior Lifeguard Club starting this month.

The Junior Lifeguard Club was designed as another way for youth aged 7 to 14 to receive lifeguard training in an untraditional, fun way that is based on personal achievements.

Rookie Day is a free program that will be on Saturday, September 10, from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. for kids who are interested in the Junior Lifeguard Club, but want to try it out first before they commit.

The Junior Lifeguard Club begins on September 24, and runs from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. every Saturday until December 17.

Registration for the Club is $220 and participants can receive their Bronze Star (age 12 and under) or Bronze Medallion (age 13 and older), which is the first mandatory course towards National Lifeguard Certification.

The club will also teach kids various skills on building and improving their already existing abilities, such as:

  • Swimming skills
  • Lifesaving skills
  • Lifesaving knowledge
  • Leadership
  • Teamwork
  • Community education
  • Competition
  • Personal fitness
