Muskoseepi Park to host first ever Grande Prairie Harvest Festival

Sep 8, 2022 | 7:00 AM

The City of Grande Prairie is hosting their first Harvest Festival at Muskoseepi Park!

On Saturday, September 24, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. residents can enjoy free, family-friendly harvest fest activities with fun games and activities all throughout the park and surrounding area.

Stacey Batt, Event and Volunteer Coordinator with the City says, the event is designed to celebrate the last days of warm weather and to recognize the farmer as well.

“This is actually the first year we’re doing the Harvest Festival, so this is Grande Prairie’s own take on it. Typically a Harvest Festival is meant to celebrate the end of harvest and that’s what we’re trying to do, especially with the hay bale maze, but we also want to give people the chance to have a fun, fall event and really enjoy those last few days of good weather before it starts to turn colder,” says Batt.

Batt adds it was important for them to include the farmers into the actual event somehow, not just celebrating and recognizing their work after it’s all done.

“We are very excited about the straw bale maze, which will be available for the entire duration of the event, and people are more than welcome to walk through and do their best to find the exit to the maze.”

You can find the maze located in the parking lot of the Grande Prairie Museum, which will also be open for visitors throughout the event.

Batt says they designed the event for families, but will have a couple of things for people 18 and older to enjoy.

“Wine Tasting will be taking place in the Heritage Village, so people will be able to take a peek at the village, look at the buildings, as well as do the wine tasting with some live music in there.”

A full list of Harvest Festival activities include:

  • Busker and wine tasting in the Heritage Village
  • Bluegrass music in the amphitheater
  • Beer gardens
  • Straw bale maze in the Grande Prairie Museum parking lot
  • Beer gardens
  • Chili cook off
  • Pie eating contest

  • Petting zoo

Residents with a crowd favorite chili recipe are encouraged to compete in the Chili Cook-Off with a panel of judges picking the top 3 chilis that will win a prize.

Participants are welcome to sell their chili to residents after the contest if they have a business license and proof of insurance.

The City of Grande Prairie also has AHS-approved kitchens for rent for anyone that may not have their own to make their chili for the cook off the be eligible.
