LEWIS-HAWKES ARENA

Renovation Celebration set for Friday night at Lewis-Hawkes arena

Sep 26, 2022 | 12:30 PM

The Lewis-Hawkes arena at Evergreen Park will play host to a “Renovation Celebration” this Friday night to show off recent improvements made to the 50-year-old facility.

Additional bleachers to increase seating to over one thousand people were added to the building, along with new lighting, concessions, washrooms, an announcer’s booth, and ventilation.

The $1.1 million project is almost complete, with some work still needing to be done to back-of-house animal wash bays and washrooms.

Evergreen Park General Manager Dan Gorman says they are looking forward to Friday’s festivities.

“Doors open at 5. We have got a buffet supper and then a few presentations afterwards, and then we have a dance with TJ Ruckus playing. We are calling it “Dancing in the Dirt”. So a big family event and everybody is welcome.”

Tickets are $20 for adults and students and $12 for children aged 4-10. Kids 3 and under are free.

Gorman says ticket sales have been good so far.

“There is a lot of things going on that weekend. But it is also Grande Prairie so we know that there will be a lot of last-minute stuff as well. We are getting the word out there for sure and hope to have a good contingent. We have also invited a number of local dignitaries as well that will be saying a few words as well.”

Gorman says they are still looking to raise the final bit of funds needed to finish up the last bit of work to be done.

“Our sponsorship manager Don Moon is still talking to people. We have a lot of panel signs that are available for sponsorship opportunities on the inside of the arena, that would help us finish off the balance of the back of house that needs to be finished. We also need some kitchen equipment, which is probably the last piece that we have not quite got.”

Tickets are available through the Evergreen Park website.
