Final Candidate for the 2022 By-Election

Sep 27, 2022 | 6:00 AM

The last candidate for the 2022 By-Election has been announced, Frank Skolly will be the eighth person in the running.

Skolly says running is something he’s thought about for the last couple of years and feels now is a great time, as he believes there are a number of things council could do better.

“One of my concerns is a common topic, cutting costs, cut, cut, cut. Well, cutting costs is a good thing, but if you’re not careful, what you cut today could cost you tomorrow. I want really good research done, before taking the steps in spending money and especially cutting.”

He adds there are a number of things he thinks city council can improve on, including health care and attracting the proper professionals to our area but he also has a heavy interest in infrastructure and crime reduction…

“I’ve seemed to see the same roads getting repaired every few years. What’s going on there? Is there something we should be doing differently? Policing, how are we making out getting more police, whether it be more RCMP or by-law officers?”

Skolly says along with proper spending on infrastructure and keeping residents safe, attracting healthcare professionals should be a top priority. as not only does it make residents feel safer, but it leads to more money in their pockets not having to drive to other places for treatment.

Skolly says his campaign will be rather traditional. However, he wants to walk around Grande Prairie and chat with residents to see what they want from council and how to work towards that goal, because lots of people don’t like the way things are currently going.

“There are seven others yes (candidates for the by-election). I think it shows that a lot of people are concerned about what’s going on and I hope they’re the same as me, that they see something’s not right.”

He says he wants to work with the council to recreate that trust that has been lost within the people of Grande Prairie.
