Camp Tamarack thrilled after a successful return of summer camps programming

Sep 28, 2022 | 12:45 PM

A total of 327 campers took part in summer programming this year at Camp Tamarack, as the camp was able to hold summer camps for the first time since 2019.

Spokesperson Ken Belke says they were thrilled with the response

“To get back to normal and to get back outside and doing things that we enjoy was so huge for the community and for us at the camp and the kids. Being out here is such a positive change and such good stuff.”

Belke adds having experienced staff at the camp helped them get back up and running so quickly after the long layoff in programming.

Now that the summer camp season has wrapped up, Belke says they are excited to once again be able to offer programming for schools in the region.

“It is so neat to have the buses rolling out here and the kids having great experiences, and hearing back from parents about how their child had been out with the school group at the camp. And we are also starting to get some outlying schools booking for overnight stays, where they come out and rent the cabins and they rent the hall and have some programming from us.”

Belke says they will offer school programming as long as the weather allows them to do so, adding they have kept some of their summer staff until the end of October.

Camp Tamarack will host a fall carnival fundraiser this Saturday, October 1st.

Belke says it is one of the final chances to see the camp and spend some time at it before winter arrives.

“It is a chance for the kids to bring their parents and show them what it was like to be at camp. And we are wrapping that day up with a spaghetti supper, along with some silent auction items. It is a chance to celebrate the success of the summer.”

The carnival runs from 2 to 5 pm with admission being by donation.

Tickets for the spaghetti supper are $8 a person or $25 for a family and must be purchased in advance through the Camp Tamarack website.
