Organizers thrilled with success of Rotary Food Bank drive

Sep 29, 2022 | 1:24 PM

The numbers are in from last Thursday’s Rotary Food Bank Drive in Grande Prairie.

“We had around 130 teams out, and we were able to cover the entire city of Grande Prairie,” said Rotary Food Bank Drive chairperson Lorrie Pollock. “We were able to gather and store up to 69 thousand pounds, which we are thrilled with.”

“We know it is very difficult for people right now with the rising food costs and rising fuel costs. But we are very grateful for everyone who helped us collect food or donated food. This is going to go a long way towards helping those who are struggling.”

Pollock says if you were unable to donate anything last Thursday night, you can still contribute.

“If they want to drop off non-perishable food items, they can do that to the Salvation Army Food Bank at their downtown location. And if they prefer to donate financially, they can just go to our website www.gpfooddrive.ca and the “Donate Now” button is still active and live.”

This was the first time that a door-to-door food bank drive was held since 2019.
