Tighty Whitey toss set for Friday night’s Grande Prairie Storm game

Oct 27, 2022 | 2:11 PM

The Dignity Drive is heading into its final days, and organizers are hoping a special event will once again be a success.

Dignity Drive committee member Heather Jones says their second annual “Tighty Whitey” toss will take place at the Grande Prairie Storm game on Friday, October 28th, when the Storm host Spruce Grove.

“When the Storm score their first goal (on the night), the fans will throw new, packaged socks ad underwear onto the ice. It was a huge success (last year) and it was where a majority of our donations came from last year. And so we are hoping for the same thing on Friday night.”

Fans are encouraged to bring packaged socks or underwear to the game.

Jones says they will have some packages available for sale at the game as well.

“The Earlyact club, so a bunch of our tiny Rotarians of Grande Prairie, will be selling socks and underwear that you can buy (at the game). They will be packaged so that you can throw them on the ice when the Storm score their first goal.”

Game time is 7 pm Friday night at Bonnett’s Energy Centre.

The Dignity Drive continues until the end of October, and Jones adds you can still drop off donations at a number of spots throughout Grande Prairie.

“You can drop off any new socks or underwear at Keddie’s, either CO-OP location, Costco, Edward’s Factory Outlet, Centre 2000, or Bonnett’s Energy Centre.”

All items collected during the Dignity Drive will be given to Grande Prairie’s street population, through agencies such as the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre, Canadian Mental Health Association, North Reach Centre, St Lawrence Centre and Wapiti House.
