Nov 2, 2022 | 6:00 AM

A new grant program was launched on Tuesday by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta to assist with projects, initiatives, and research that benefit the health of Albertans or improve their care.

A total of $5 million dollars is available through the Healthy Albertan Grant.

CPSA President Stacey Strilchuk says the funding is available for Alberta-based organizations and individuals to support projects, initiatives, and research that align with the CPSA’s strategic directions.

“Delivering of highest quality, compassionate and ethical care, and that is really our biggest pillar with the most number of objectives, and then equal as far as importance wise is enhanced partnerships.”

“Being proactive and innovative and using that proactive and innovative approach. Our anti-racism and anti-discrimination pillar is embedded within our strategic plan and really sort of offers that lens on everything that we do. And then the fifth one that we have is around the authentic Indigenous connections.”

Strilchuk admits there is burnout in the healthcare system, and she hopes this grant program will start conversations about projects and initiatives that will support the work being done by their members.

“At the end of the day, I think it is important to note that what we are looking to do is to seek out those opportunities that will have a direct benefit on the health of Albertans and improving their care.”

Applicants must submit an expression of interest by December 15th, with their formal approval being due by February 28, 2023.

Strilchuk adds she is particularly looking forward to seeing requests for proposals come from projects or initiatives in rural Alberta.

“I know how skilled organizations in rural Alberta can be with respect to being collaborative and bringing resources together, knowing those areas of which they bring the expertise to the table, but also knowing who else they can bring to the table to collaborate and build some consensus, and move forward on. ”
