New gift card program for Grande Prairie’s downtown shops

Nov 15, 2022 | 6:00 AM

Grande Prairie’s Downtown Association has come up with a way to revitalize the heart of the city.

A new gift card system that will be replacing the old paper dollar practice that has been in place for over 20 years.

The Grande Prairie City Centre Gift Card can be spent like a debit card at multiple businesses in the city’s core.

Owner of Bama Furniture, Jason Sawatzky said in a news release: “The Grande Prairie City Centre Gift Card is exciting for the area and will be beneficial for all businesses. It’s a way that we can build on the collaboration that already exists in the community with a one-stop shop gift card that is simple and easy for businesses and consumers.”

These cards are already available at the Downtown Association’s office or online, by clicking here and come in a range of prices from $25 to $500.

Wendy Bosch, the Executive Director for the Downtown Association said in the same news release: “Our new gift card gives our local businesses the ability to go up against the Amazons of the world. Everyone, in any sector, can give their colleagues, friends, family and clients the Grande Prairie City Centre Gift Card while also making a tangible investment in our community, and showing their support for local businesses and entrepreneurs.”

Bosch adds the new system will hopefully lead to a boost in the local economy, creating a local currency residents use that will support our businesses.

The gift cards are part of the Downtown Revitalization and Streetscape Project the City of Grande Prairie spent $44 million over the past few years on so the City Centre could rebrand and modernize the heart of Grande Prairie.
