Community conversation-style open house on future vision of Composite High School planned for Thursday

Nov 19, 2022 | 9:00 AM

The opening of the new Composite High school has given administration and staff the opportunity to work on a future vision, philosophy, and goals for the new facility, something they are calling the “Phoenix Philosophy”.

The school is hosting a community conversation open house from 6:30 to 8:30 pm on November 24th.

Principal Denis Vobeyda says getting feedback from the community as a whole is a very important part of this process.

“We have spent time talking to our students, our families specifically, and our teaching staff, but I think it is bigger than that and we need to make sure that everybody has that opportunity to talk it through, and then we gather that input, and then we are able to have what we have been calling our Phoenix Philosophy, and what it means to be a Phoenix here at the Grande Prairie Composite High School.”

Vobeyda adds they would love to get input from as many people in the community as possible.

“Obviously if you have a child in the school or your child is coming to the high school at some point, you have a vested interest. But I think it is also important that the greater community, and even if you do not have a child in the school at this point, you may have a child or may have had children in the school at one point. And you have valuable information for us to gather, and be able to work towards something that we would like to see for the future.”

Vobeyda says work on the “Phoenix Philosophy” has been underway since back in August.

“We are working specifically on our professional learning days, but then we also have subcommittees that have been meeting every couple of weeks that are working through the process with our school staff. We have also done the same thing with our students, and then also with our parent group.”

“The next step is gathering the community group. And then once that is all gathered, we bring all of that information back together and we start to look for themes, and we start to look at what does this mean and what we would like to see in a polished product that we are hoping to have in that early part of next year.”

Light refreshments will be served during the event.
