Climate Action Incentive payments on the rise for Albertans

Nov 22, 2022 | 5:40 PM

Albertans will get more money back next year under the federal government’s Climate Action Incentive payments.

The increased payments will come into effect on April 1, 2023.

Starting then, individual Albertans will receive $193 up from $134.75. A spouse or common-law partner will get $96.50 up from $67.50 and children under 18 will get $48.25 up from $33.75.

The next payment, coming in January will fall under the current system.

Alberta residents will receive four equal quarterly payments in April, July and October 2023, and January 2024.

This year, the government switched to quarterly payments from a refundable tax credit that was claimed annually on personal income tax returns. Canadians do need to file their annual returns to get the quarterly payments.

Payments will also be increasing in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario, while the program will come into effect for residents in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island on July 1, 2023.
