Select bars, clubs, pubs, restaurants, and casinos are being recognized in Grande Prairie on Tuesday night for going above and beyond for their patrons to have a safer and more enjoyable night.

Best Bar None Grande Prairie is recognizing eight local businesses for earning their accreditation and some getting awards in the program.

Eric Baich, Director of Social Responsibility with the AGLC says since 2014, Grande Prairie has been one of five Alberta cities that does the Best Bar None designations.

“The businesses they follow the programming with a checklist of policies and practices in best regards to how they can maximize the safety and efficiency of their businesses in regards to raising their standards for the safety of staff and patrons.”

Baich says when people are choosing a place to go have a night out, the BBN designation can help immensely.

“I think it’s very important to know that the place to attend… are looking out for them, doing all they can do to provide a safer night out, committed and have their back.”

He says getting the BBN designation is prestigious to acquire, as the checklist has over 100 items along with having to bring in new policies and procedures.

The People’s Choice Award received over 550 votes in just nine days, which Baich says; businesses look forward to sharing the good news and share their accomplishments.”

Tuesday night’s celebration for businesses and municipal partners will have presentations for four awards and eight accreditations.

The Best Bar None program is done in accordance with the Alberta Gaming Liquor and Cannabis and endorsed by the Alberta Safer Bars Council.
