Grande Prairie physician suspended after sexual relationship with patient

Jan 13, 2023 | 5:09 PM

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta has suspended a Grande Prairie family doctor after what it claims was conduct that constitutes sexual abuse under the Health Professions Act.

A CPSA Hearing Tribunal found Dr. Brianne Hudson guilty after she was accused of having a sexual relationship with a patient between August and December of 2019.

She was also found guilty by the tribunal of providing false information on a 2020 CPSA Renewal Information Form, claiming that she had not been in that type of relationship with a patient.

In February 2020, Dr. Hudson signed an agreement with the CPSA, that placed practice conditions on her permit throughout the course of the complaint and hearing process.

Those conditions included having a chaperone present for all patient interactions, including telephone appointments.

It also included another physician or registered health professional having to be present with Dr. Hudson in any clinical setting.

Dr. Hudson’s practice has been suspended, pending the determination of sanction.
