Early childhood literacy programming earns GPPL special recognition

Feb 3, 2023 | 3:16 PM

Some nice recognition for the Grande Prairie Public Library from another local organization.

The GPPL’s Children’s Department received a certificate from the Grande Prairie Family Centered Coalition.

Library Children’s program co-ordinator Erika Stamp says they were reognized for their work and commitment to promoting the enhancement of early childhood development.

“We have a lot of programs for babies and toddlers, as well as pre-school aged children. Our baby and toddler time includes songs and stories and rhyming.”

Stamp feels the coalition was particularly impressed with changes made in the children’s department in recent years.

“Gtting more families to stay in the library and use the space and get comfortable with being a community by having space available for patrons to come in and sit and relax and just spend a little bit more time, rather than coming and grabbing a book and go.”

Besides receiving a certificate, Stamp says the Coalition will also be profiling the library and specifically its Children’s department throughout the month of February.

“If you go to their Facebook page, you will be able to see all of the programming that we are going to be offering for the month of February. They are going to be showcasing those programs and advertise them on our behalf.”

“They will also have a bio up about myself as children’s program co-ordinator, as well as the programs that we offer as an organization.”
