Alberta and BC side of the Peace represented at the Canada Winter Games

Some people from the Peace will be part of Team Alberta and Team BC at the Canada Winter Games.

They will start Saturday in Prince Edward Island.

Grande Prairie’s Rylee McLeod is on the Alberta female hockey team. Their competition will be held in Week 2, starting Monday, February 27 against Nova Scotia.

Grande Prairie’s Liam Tinworth will compete in biathlon.

Three other people from Grande Prairie will fill other roles. Dave Campbell is part of technical support for hockey, Robert Sibbotson is an apprentice coach in curling, and Dave Hurta is part of the mission staff.

Drew Rogers of La Glace is a coach with the snowboarding team.

Eight athletes are part of the BC team and seven of them are speed skaters.

That includes Brooke Braun from Charlie Lake and Jack Hanson, Kieran Hanson, Sidney Bennie, Nicholas Guliov, Hannah Jane North and Matthew Mitchell all from Fort St. John.

Speed skating, long track and short track will run during Week 1.

Dawson Creek’s Hailey Armstrong is on the female hockey team. BC plays Saskatchewan in its first game February 27.

The Canada Games will run through March 5.
