Court update: Sentencing date in sexual assault conviction, jail time for one of two people involved in stolen police car incident

Sentencing date set in sexual assault case.

A sentencing date of July 4 has been set for a former Grande Prairie business owner convicted of sexual assault.

Alberta Justice says he was convicted February 3 after a trial.

Everything GP is not using his name because of a court-ordered publication ban that prohibits the release of any information that could identify the complainants.

Grande Prairie RCMP had made an arrest on January 4, 2020, after complaints of inappropriate sexual contact between an adult and two minors at a Grande Prairie home.

Mounties said at the time that the young people were offered goods in exchange for going to an unlicensed business.

One of two charged after police car stolen given jail time.

Alberta Justice says one of the two people charged after an incident in Grande Prairie where a police car was stolen has been given a 720-day jail sentence.

Sara Desjarlais of Grande Prairie was given the sentence after pleading guilty to a charge of robbery February 13 in Grande Prairie court.

She was charged after an incident on March 16, 2022, near 162 Avenue and 102 Street.

Police located a vehicle that had been reported stolen.

The driver tried to take off but the vehicle went off the road. A woman was arrested but a man ran away and made off with an unsecured police vehicle before being arrested the next day.

David Pinfield of Valleyview was also charged and is due in court March 15.
