Three northwest Alberta players receive GMHL West Division Awards

The Greater Metro Jr. A Hockey League’s West Division has announced this season’s award winners.

This year, each division has a winner for the following awards: Most Valuable Player, Best Forward, Best Defensive Forward, Best Defense, Best Goalie, Rookie of the Year, Most Heart, Most Sportsman, and Best Coach.

Most Valuable Player: Dayton Shantz of the High Prairie Red Wings. Shantz is from High Prairie, AB.

Best Forward: Tyrell Shott of the Northern Alberta Tomahawks. Shott is from Fort McKay, AB.

Best Defense: Darian Alook of the Fox Creek Ice Kings. Alook is from Wabasca, AB.

Best Goalie: Bradley Roncin of the High Prairie Red Wings. Roncin is from McCreary, MB.

Best Defensive Forward: Michael Beaverbones of the Northern Alberta Tomahawks. Beaverbones is from Edmonton, AB.

Rookie of the Year: Sacha Munro of the Slave Lake Ice Dogs. Munro is from Sicamous, B.C.

Most Heart: Duncan Gaunt of the Gibbons Pioneers. Gaunt is from Sexsmith, AB.

Most Sportsman: Curtis Campbell of the Northern Alberta Tomahawks. Campbell is from Beaumont, AB.

Best Coach: Steve Arsenault of the Gibbons Pioneers. Arsenault is a two-time Paralympic medalist in 2014 and 2018 for ice sledge hockey, winning bronze and silver respectively.
