Mar 4, 2023 | 6:00 AM

The ceremonial start for the 2023 Iditarod 51st ‘Last Great Race’ is set for Saturday, March 4 at 10 a.m. in downtown Anchorage.

That will be followed up by the official start in Willow Lake at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 5.

To limit traffic congestion, the Iditarod will once again be offering shuttles on Sunday for fans, from Anchorage and Wasilla to the official start at the Willow Community Centre.

Thirty-four dog sled teams are set to make the 1,000-mile dash on the south trail to Nome after a three-year hiatus of the track.

Out of 34 mushers, only one Canadian is part of the race. Grande Prairie local and Elevation Dog Sled owner Aaron Peck, who was part of a third and fourth-place finish for Elevation dog sleds at Yukon Quest, last month.

Only three other non-Americans are in this race with Peck, Millie Porsild from Denmark, Gerhardt Thiart from South Africa, and Christian Turner from Australia
