PWPSD exploring junior high programming options for Beaverlodge area students

Mar 8, 2023 | 1:50 PM

The Peace Wapiti Public School Division is conducting a community engagement project called “Guiding our Future”, which is looking at future junior high school programming options for the Beaverlodge and Hythe area.

Currently, Grade 7-9 students from Beaverlodge attend Hythe Regional School, before coming back to Beaverlodge for Grade 10.

Three possible options are being considered: keeping programming as is, adding Grade 7 Beaverlodge kids to the elementary school and adding Grades 8 and 9 to the high school, or adding Grades 7 and 8 to the elementary school and adding Grade 9 to the high school.

In all three options, junior high students from the Hythe area would continue attending Hythe Regional School.

Consultants Dialogue Partners have been hired to conduct a community engagement, which included a survey and other online engagement.

PWPSD administration and trustees, along with the consultants, also recently visited Beaverlodge, Hythe and Horse Lake to speak with students, staff, parents, and community members to get their thoughts.

A final report is expected by the end of the current school year.
