City introduces the “Grande Access Pass” to four recreational facilities

Apr 10, 2023 | 6:00 AM

A new recreation membership has been introduced by the City of Grande Prairie, the “Grande Access Pass.”

This pass, designed to promote youth and adult interests in niche and common recreational activities that may not be available at the Eastlink Centre, will be replacing the pre-paid six-month membership.

General Manager at the Community Knowledge Campus Angela Redding says this pass will offer a wider range of activities and amenities for residents in the area.

“The Grande Access Pass is an opportunity for people that have recreation desires that are beyond Eastlink Centre, and so anybody with an Eastlink Centre membership can extend their membership to the Grande Access Pass that would include, the Aquatera Outdoor Pool, Design Works Centre and the Dave Barr Community Centre drop-in access.”

Along with access to the four different city facilities, you also will qualify for a long list of amenities:

  • Ten per cent registration discount for city programs, camps and swimming lessons.
  • Ten per cent discount on birthday party packages for all city facilities.
  • Unlimited skate rentals at the Design Works Centre.
  • Four skate sharpenings annually at the Design Works Centre.
  • Everything you already love from an Eastlink Centre membership including;

– Access to amenities.

– Drop-in instructor-led fitness classes.

– PlayCare for children ages six months to seven years old.

– Drop-in activities.

The idea for this pass was originally brought to council in the fall, after CKC began looking at other municipalities and their recreation programs.

“In the fall we presented a report through council that outlined a number of surveys and data collection we had done related to the Eastlink Centre Pass, and how that compared to other municipalities, and the Grande Access Pass is what was supported in extending one more opportunity for recreation in the community,” said Redding.

However, Redding adds, as this pass was created locally, from the ground up, this pass will be fluid and can change as time goes on, and get feedback.

“Right now the Grande Access Pass does include the discount and offers as outlined, we will be creating some baseline criteria because this is the first time this pass has been offered, and we will be collecting feedback, and monitoring usage so that when we do an annual review we will be able to explore other ways we can improve recreation opportunities.”

The Grande Access Pass can also get you a discount on the upcoming Eastlink Centre Triathlon, but will not work at other city facilities such as the Bonnett’s Energy Centre or the Activity & Reception Centre.

Existing Eastlink Centre members can upgrade to a Grande Access Pass by visiting a welcome desk at the Eastlink Centre.
