Glenmary High School bands hosted an “exceptional” North Peace Music Festival

The Glenmary High School Junior and Senior bands had an exceptional performance at the North Peace Music Festival Grand Concert on April 1.

Glenmary Music Teacher Brock Whalen said in a release, “Both bands performed two selections that they started working on in February, students practiced many hours and worked so hard for this and I couldn’t be prouder of everyone.”

Bands were judged on a scale from 0 to 100 per cent, with the senior band earning a score of Distinction, which is 85 per cent, with the Junior band receiving a mark of Superior, which is 90 per cent.

Eight students participated in the Music Festival representing Glenmary, giving a variation of performances:

  • Ava Vacon, accompanied by Briell Jewell, performed a vocal solo of Saturday Sun by Vance Joy and received a mark of Distinction.
  • Tayler Cottrell & Kalyna MacKenzie performed a Saxophone duet of the Pink Panther Theme and received a mark of Distinction.
  • Hayden Neustaeter performed in multiple disciplines including; Contemporary/Pop Vocal Solo, Musical Theatre, and Piano Solo receiving multiple marks.
  • Flynn Pardell entered in Original Poetry (wrote their own poem) – Distinction, Music Composition (wrote their own song) – Superior; and Monologue – Superior.
  • Micah Hansen Piano Duet & Solos, and Poetry.
  • Nathaniel Hansen Piano Duet.

Out of the eight band members two received a recommendation for provincials taking place in May and June, Micah Hansen, and Flynn Pardell.

Victoria Gormick, Principal at Glenmary said in a release, “Glenmary has always had a great reputation as a school for performing arts, I am excited to see what our students accomplish at provincials, as well as other music festivals.”

Both bands will now begin rehearsing for the Moose Jaw Band and Choral which runs from May 15-18.
